Mongolia

Mongolia is landlocked country in the inner east north of Asia, located between China and Russia. It shares its border with China on the east, west and the south and Russia on the north. The country covers an area of about 1.5million sqkm, making it the 26th largest country in the world in terms of area. Ulaan Baatar is the capital and the largest city of Mongolia, with the population of about 3 million of which about 60% lives in urban area.
As it is a landlocked country no coastal waters in Mongolia but inland water: rivers and lakes covers about 10,000 SqKm of Mongolia. It is also filled with vast semi desert, desert plains, steppe forest and mountains, land rising from 500m to 4,300m above the sea level. Dust storms, grassland and forest fires and drought and zud (harsh winter condition) are some of the natural disasters that takes place in Mongolia.
People of Mongolia are called Mongolian, 94% of the population are Mongol, 5% Tukic and the rest are Russian and Chinese. Agriculture and herding are some of the major source of economy of the country. It has rich deposit of natural resources which are in large unexploited.
Mongolia which once rose to fame in the 13th century in conquering and establishing the Eurasian Empire under the leadership of Genghis Kha lost its glory in the 17th century and came under various foreign rule and influence especially its southern neighbour China and gained its independence in 1921 from Chinese rule.
