Burkina Fuso

Burkina Fuso is a landlocked country in Western Africa, formerly known as Upper Volta and French colony. It gained its independence in August 1960 from France and later it changed its name officially from Upper Volta to Burkina Fuso in 1984. Ouagadougou is the capital and the largest city of Burkina Fuso, physically located in the middle centre of the country. It shares its border with Mali in the west and north, Nigeria in the north east, Benin in the southeast and Togo, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire in the south. The population of Burkina Fuso is about 15 million with its area of about 270,200 sq Km.
French is the official language of the country with other indigenous language also spoken widely all over the country. Currency of Burkina Fuso is called CFA (Communaute Financiere Africaine) franc and is divided into 100 centimes. Major export is agriculture products. According to UN, it is the third poorest country in the world.
Blaise Campaore is the current President of the country, a trained soldier who came into power after the 1987 coup. The president exercises executive power, appoints the prime minister and keeps a tight hold over the military and government bodies.
