Revolutionary Organisation 17 November, commonly known as N17, is Marxist organisation, Greek terrorist group, which was formed in 1973. 17N or N17 is referred to the 17 November 1973 Athens Polytechnic uprising, protest against Military Junta (1967-1974). Now it is believed to be disbanded in 2002 after the arrest and trial of number of its members.
During its glory days, this urban guerrilla group, (as they were active in the urban and city areas) made about 103 attacks on various targets, which includes US, UK, Turkey and Greeks targets. N17’s first attack was in December 1975 against the CIA station chief in Athens, Richard Welch. Welch was gunned down outside his residence by N17 members in front of his wife and the driver.
N17 expanded its attack beyond US target, they added center-right Greek figures, NATO personnel. Although Greek were target, disliking for the US remained the main theme. Beside, Anti-American agenda, they also disliked and opposed Turkey and NATO, remove US base and influence from Greece, remove Turkish military from Cyprus, break ties with NATO and EU.
