Irish Republican Army (IRA), branded as terrorist organisation was formed in 1969 as the secret/underground armed wing of Sinn Fein, Gaelic expression for "We Ourselves". IRA is committed in removing British forces from Northern Ireland and unifying the whole island of Ireland, which inlcudes Northern Ireland.
IRA activities included kidnappings, assassinations, bombings, punishing, torture, smuggling, robberies and extortion. Before the cease-fire in 1997, IRA was involved in bombing campaigns on various targets in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom: British Government figures, British military installations, police, civilians.
With several hundred members and thousands of sympathizers, received funding, supply of arms and aids from overseas mainly United States. Also, received funds, aids and trained with PLO, Libya and other various terrorist groups and organisations.
